Oregon and Nevada

Great first night! Arrived at our campsite at sunset, then headed out for a dinner and a beer in the town of Tumalo.

We decided to keep it simple the first 2 nights and not prepare our own meals, since they are quick, 1 night stops. We'll set up shop once we get to Zion.

Slept great in the van! Up at 6 for a quick 3mi hike along the beautiful Deschutes River, then packed up and headed out for the 7hr drive to our next stop near Beoware, NV.

Most of the drive was on a 2-lane highway through scrub-covered, wide open space, with occasional mountains or other features. Fortunately, there was very little traffic and we made great time.

Our second "campsite" is unique, to say the least. We found it on hipcamp.com. It's on private property a couple miles off a remote highway near Crescent Valley, NV. The owner met us at the gate and directed us to drive another mile through scrub brush to a dried up lake bed. No sites - just pick a spot and setup camp.

There one other car here (a couple hundred yards away). You can see for miles in every direction. There are thunderstorms in the area and we are currently watching a spectacular light show in the distance.

Early to bed tonight. Hoping for an early start to our 7hr drive to Zion!
