For the Invention Convention, each student is tasked with 'inventing' something that solves a 'real' problem. Victoria decided she wanted to invent something that our dog, Jack, could use (although her primary motive was to be able to include pictures of Jack in her presentation!). She focused on something that might help with tug-of-war - one of Jack's favorite activities. After some trial-and-error, she eventually settled on what she's calling the 'Puppy Puller'. It's actually pretty cool and, I have to admit, useful!
Her contraption is made simply, using a rope, a carabiner (climbing clip), a couple small bungee cords, and a dog toy - ideally a sturdy rope. We tied the rope to the chin-up bar in our garage, then attached the bungees using the carabiner, with the bungees double-wrapped through one end of the dog toy. That's it.
As the pictures show, Jack really likes it. The bungee cords add some spring, which makes it more like a real game of tug-of-war. Attaching it to the ceiling allows it to swing around, which helps keep Jack interested in it. I can't help but think it would have been incredibly useful when he was a puppy - always looking for a something to chew on and pull on.

The kids made enough progress over the weekend to 'earn' a day off today. Karri took Matthew and Victoria skiing again at Crystal Mountain. Thomas has morning basketball practice and then will spend the rest of the day studying. I'm off to pick him up, then will spend the day working.
